Still Thinking about Cool

Forget the TV.  I'm into reading blogs now.

Dr. Wade has a provocative and highly-trafficed blog called,
Sociological Images.  A couple of weeks ago she wrote a post called, WHAT IS “COOL”?  It sparked a bunch of interesting comments.

It's had me thinking too:

If cool means acting not interested and holding back my feelings about you, I’m not very cool.

If cool’s not noticing and not being excited about the wondrous things around me, that’s not me either.

If cool is not being overcome by feelings sometimes, I can’t help when my eyes well up in tears.

If cool is not laughing at my own jokes so much that tears roll down my face, I may not be very cool at all.

If cool is having it together all the time, I am not cool.

But,

If cool means I care a little (okay, a lot) about what someone special thinks of me, that’s cool.

If cool means expressing myself in sappy writing and saying, "I love you"; I’m a rock star.

If cool is not having any hang-ups, not being obsessed with things (except about you); I’m pretty awesome.

And, if cool means I don’t care very much whether or not I’m cool, then I’m pretty cool indeed.
