To My Persistently PURRsuasive Friends:

You win.  I have a kitty.

I thought and thought about it, even dreamed of it.  Alas, there was no good reason I should not get a cat.

This was a fairly emotional experience.  Partly because I know I'm about to meet a significant other, partly because the humane society is a sad place, and partly because I don't know.

A young volunteer took me through the kennels, past the visitation rooms, and finally to a "free range" room where the cats can roam and nap in a living room kind of place.  There was a TV and couch in this area.  The room is made into a special place for cats that remain un-adopted the longest.  Apparently it's to give the less fortunate kitties more visibility to guests and a nicer quality of life after months of hard time spent in solitary confinement in racks of individual cages.

Here is Kitcha, the very moment we met:

See her adoption listing here.
Yes!  Adopted by ME!

Kitcha was the first and only kitty I visited.  She is calm, loving and small.  The volunteers all knew her and called her sweet.  She was up for adoption the second longest of all the cats there, actually since September 4th.  That's nearly 4 months.  She's 2 years old, and not much was known about her, except she was dropped off by a neighbor of her owner.  Her owner was being evicted and couldn't keep her.

I thought it strange that Kitcha was not adopted right away, compared to other kitties.  The volunteers explained, she was quiet and would go unnoticed in the racks of individual cages.  They all smiled hearing her name, "Oh Kitcha, what a sweetheart."

I removed her pink adoption collar this morning.  We need each other.

You don't know me, Steve, but you know my daughter....Chelsea from dance class. She had me look at one of your Barbershop videos because I love Barbershop...in my search for more of your singing, I came across your Blog. Hope you don't mind my commenting, but I have to tell you why Kitcha wasn't adopted sooner! She was waiting for you! She couldn't go home with anyone else. I have a similar story. When it's your cat, it's your cat!

That's sweet of you to say. If you ask Kitcha, I'm sure she'd say, "He's my human."

I'm sure she would, too! I am personally owned by 2 cats. Wookie and Lilypearl. Life wouldn't be the same without them.
